Referendums

The Swiss love their referendums. And the latest elections proved interesting.

Particularly interesting were:

  • The vote on maintaining a heroin program. This should keep people who are not yet ready to stop using safe.
  • The vote against the restriction of the right of associations to appeal against building projects. This will allow environmental organizations to still use the court system as a tool to potentially put a stop to building projects that they consider harmful.
  • The vote to eliminate the statute of limitations with cases concerning pornographic crimes against children. This will allow victims a much longer time to take legal action against those who committed the crime.

The heroin program even made our news. Do you miss KARE 11?

I wonder if the 'building projects' law will extend to Ticino and the monstrosities that are taking over the hills around Lugano.

The UK has a somewhat similar heroin program - problem being too many people are using this program and there's not enough space/supplies. I'm wondering why and how anyone thinks even trying heroin is a good idea.
