Zürich
On Sunday, I went to Zürich to meet up with my friend MJ, originally from Montreal, who I know through TASIS. We worked together in 2003 and 2004 in Lugano, and this summer, she was the director of the summer program in Château d'Oex. Now, she works in Lugano during the year. We tried to get together a couple other times, but timing just didn't work out. However, this imporoptu trip to Zürich did! It was great to see her, and get a quick glimpse of Switzerland's largest city - which is quite charming, it turns out.
(MJ and I met up at the train station. And to my surprise, there was a huge Christmas market! It is Europe's largest indoor Christmas market - with over 120 stands.)
(Strolling by the water.)
(The twin-towered church is the Grossmünster - a 12th century former-cathedral-now-protestant-church.)
(Inside the Grossmünster.)
(View from the Grossmünster tower - well, one of the towers.)
(Joseph and MJ.)
(More from the tower.)
(Notice the pink poodle. People in Fribourg say that Zürich is Switzerland's "alternative" city.)
(The buildings are all great colors.)
(Back in the Christmas market.)
(The Christmas tree is over 50 feet high, decorated with over 5000 Swarovski crystals.)
(Zürich by night.)
