Safety in the streets

I went on a hike this weekend. From Fribourg to Plaffeien. I tried to replicate the path I took here. More on the hike will come in a different post.

But I just had to expand on my post about
crosswalks. Walking through many small villages, I had a hard time not noticing that safety in the streets is a big deal.

There were many signs encouraging drivers to slow down. Many adorable signs.

As far as I can tell, they say:
30 kilometers per hour - For our sake!! And it is prefaced by Freiwillig - or voluntary. So you'd only not slow down if you hate children.

Look at this. The big heads. The arched smiles. Those beady eyes. Could you possibly hate children after seeing this?

Also seen throughout the Swiss countryside are wood cutouts, like this:

Little boys playing football. Girls with pigtails blowing in the wind. And it's not just children. Sometimes it's little old ladies.

All this makes me wonder... Are the Swiss passive aggressive guilt-trippers?

We may have one more thing in common, me and these Swiss...
