Marché

In many ways, it can't compare to the Saint Paul Farmers' Market or the Madison Farmers' Market, but the Fribourg market holds its own. In fact, there are two markets a week. One is Wednesday mornings in the center of town. The other is in the lower, old city on Saturday mornings.

They are lively, the vendors are kind, and the food is good. I don't know for sure, but it appears that all the produce (meats, cheese, vegetables, breads) comes from local farms. At the very least, it all generally seems seasonable and fresh.

Although walking through a market on a sunny morning feels great, a drizzle-covered market is also refreshing. This morning, a light shower, eggs, broccoli, apples, mushrooms (the mushroom stand had a huge selection), cucumbers, orange peppers, and more - amidst the backdrop of a medieval street - were in the lineup. Followed by a coffee and pastry.

jealous jealous jealous...sigh...wish we had markets. In the UK, we have Marks and Spencer, and that's supposed to be fine.
