The other weekend I headed to Beaune, which is a town near Dijon, in France. There were a couple reasons for this visit. First, to see my friend Kelly who is working there. Second, to meet up with friends Carl and Christine who came from Paris for the weekend. And third: the Salon de Vin, Fromage et Pain (Wine, Bread and Cheese)!
I took the train from Fribourg -> Lausanne -> Dijon. After spending a couple hours in Dijon (where I bought books because they are much more competitively priced in France than in Switzerland), I met up with my friend Kelly on the train. Later that evening, Carl and Christine arrived and we had a night out on the town.
The next morning, Carl and I went on a mission to by pastries. I was particularly motivated since Swiss pastries don't quite have the same flaky dough as those in France. It took us over and hour and a half because we stopped for a coffee - and then were not satisfied with the looks of any of the pastries. We finally found some that looked reasonable, and bought them. For the four of us, we got 4 pains au chocolat, 4 croissants, 2 chaussons aux pommes, and 2 éclairs.
Later that afternoon, we walked around town before heading to the cheese, wine and bread festival. This salon did not disappoint. There was an abundance of wine, bread and cheese. A couple I didn't like. But for the most part: delicious. We went back to Christine and Carl's hotel where we hung out for a bit, sampling some more of the wine purchased that evening.

(This was when the Salon opened, later there were twice as many people!)
