Fribourg - Plaffeien

As I had talked about in a previous post, I had a great hike the other weekend. Equipped with a sort of hike guide book, I headed out from Fribourg, direction Plaffeien. The attempt to recreate my route can be seen here. It was a great day. The sun was shining, but not too warm. A gentle breeze. Fantastic.

I started out through the Gottéron, which I talked about in an earlier post. This is definitely becoming one of my favorite spots in Switzerland. I took even more pictures of it this time.

From there, I walked through farms, up hills, through wooded areas, down hills, on country roads... The scenery varied from point to point. But it was always breathtaking. The hike was supposed to be about 17 km (a little over 10 miles, I think) and roughly 5 hours. I added probably another 3 km and an extra hour because I got distracted and missed a turn. This stressed me out a bit - and I kept on telling myself - I'm never going to write about being lost on my blog... But I got back on track, and then sort of booked it for the last hour or so. I made it to my destination, and was relieved to sit down for a while on the bus ride back - which took only 15 minutes or so.

The pictures below will show some of the paths I took and the sights along the way.

Le Gottéron

Note the spider web.

No longer the Gottéron.
But note the yellow arrow on the tree. This is to help you not get lost.
I could have used an arrow later in the day...

I hiked on all sorts of paths.

I love how the clouds wisp the sky.

The village of St. Ursen.

Looking towards Fribourg.

Looking at the mountains I lived in this summer - direction Château d'Oex.

This barn outside of Rechthalten distracted me.
I blame it for my extra hour of hiking.
Which was actually equally beautiful as the rest of the hike.

Hiking through pastures is sort of a joy. Only the calves seem to mind.

Towards the end of the hike, I was at 1032 meters (Fribourg is at 550, I think). This is a forest called Buechenchäppeli. (You leave Fribourg and you get into the German-speaking part of Switzerland.)

I was relieved to make it to Plaffeien (or as it is known in French, Planfayon).

My handy dandy guide.
